    Model 19's in Russia

This pair even comes with a 50 kg granite stone slab (and an "interesting" claim about it's properties)!

    A Pair of Altec Lansing Model 19 incl 416 8B 811B 902 8B Near Mint | eBay

Interesting configuration by the way--alnico woofers and ferrite h.f. drivers--maybe manufactured during their transition from Alnico to ferrite? (or maybe replacement drivers?).

Check out the background of the photos.....

The HF drivers converted to ferrite first. I suspect engineering them was easier.

FWIW- The 902's I believe should have been 902-8A's. IMHO they are replacements. If they have the 416-8B's that are original to those 19's then they should also have the 033952 or 802-8G's.. In the case of the M19 Altec never mixed ferrite with alnico drivers IMO.

................... and if they did, i would expect the combo to be ferrite woofer(416-8C) and alnico HF. I've seen more than one pair of 19's with ferrite woofer and alnico HF with owners swearing they're original. I have no clue if they're original, but we even have a member here with such a pair of 19's.

Logically, 802/808 motors were produced in larger quantities than 416-8B. 416-8B's would have been the first component to go scarce, IMO.

This type of scenario don't surprise me. I know Altec would sometimes use the drivers they had on hand as their inventory permitted especially when transitioning from one style/model driver to it's replacement. AFAIK this became even more common towards the "end" of Altec's existence.....

Yeah, chics do but wives don't always!

What do you guys think of the sellers claim that a 50 kilogram granite slab helps make the Model 19's bass "sound even more prominent & obertonal"? Maybe it helps his 19's to make the floor vibrate more? I wouldn't want that type of bass enhancement. Also, what does "obertonal" mean??

I think he meant to say overtonal, and yes I have heard the same claim even from Greg. It is supposed to help the bass but more probably by coupling the speaker better to the floor.
